GPAA Donates $5K In Support of ASU Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Band

November 8, 2025 — In a generous show of support for the students of Alcorn State University, the GPAA (Gamma Pi Alumni Association) made a significant donation to the ASU Band, “Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite,” to help fund their highly anticipated appearance in the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

At the Alcorn State vs. Southern University football game on November 8, 2025, held at the ASU Band Hall, GPAA representatives, including brothers Terence Lynch and Richard Seals, presented the band with a $5,000 check. The donation is aimed at covering expenses related to the band’s trip to New York City for the upcoming parade, one of the most prestigious events in American holiday celebrations.

A Momentous Occasion for ASU Band

The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite, Alcorn State’s beloved student marching band, will take part in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, an incredible honor for the historically Black university. The 5K donation is a testament to the GPAA’s commitment to supporting the students of Alcorn State University, which extends beyond financial aid, encompassing mentorship and community service.

“We are incredibly proud to see the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite representing Alcorn State University on such a grand stage,” said Bro. Terence Lynch, GPAA Secretary. “This donation is a small part of our ongoing effort to support the success of ASU students, and we’re thrilled to see the band take its place in history.”

Mission of Support

The GPAA has long been dedicated to supporting Alcorn State University students in various ways, from funding scholarships to offering mentorship and fostering a sense of community. This donation is just one example of how the organization continues to live out its mission to provide invaluable resources to students at Alcorn State.

Bro. Richard Seals echoed these sentiments, saying, “The GPAA is all about empowering students and ensuring they have the resources to succeed, both on campus and in their future careers. Supporting this amazing group of talented musicians is just one way we are continuing to build a legacy of excellence.”

A Boost for Alcorn State’s Legacy

The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite invitation to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade marks a milestone for Alcorn State University, elevating its national profile and showcasing the talent and dedication of its students. With the help of the GPAA’s donation, the band will be better prepared to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, representing their university with pride on a global stage.

The historic performance in New York will be a moment of triumph for both the band and the broader Alcorn State community, who will be cheering them on from home.

As the ASU Band prepares for their appearance in the parade, the GPAA remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders and artists from Alcorn State University, ensuring their success both in the classroom and beyond.

For the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite, this donation is more than just a financial contribution — it’s a symbol of community, pride, and the belief that Alcorn State University students have what it takes to shine in the brightest of spotlights.
