GPAA Holds 2024 Annual Meeting and Leadership Transition During Soul Bowl Weekend

On Friday, November 22, 2024—during the excitement of Soul Bowl Weekend—the Gamma Pi Alumni Association (GPAA) hosted its 2024 Annual Meeting on the campus of Alcorn State University’s School of Nursing in Natchez, Mississippi. The meeting marked a pivotal moment for the organization as it welcomed a new administration, celebrated progress, and deepened its connection with the undergraduate chapter.

A Moment of Reflection and Transition

Outgoing Chairman Brother Marvin Smith opened the meeting with his final State of the Association address, reflecting on GPAA’s recent accomplishments, growth, and continued commitment to excellence. His leadership was marked by strong advocacy, impactful programming, and a clear vision for advancing the mission of the alumni association.

Following his address, incoming Chairman Brother David Maxwell took the stage to outline his two-year vision for the GPAA under the unifying theme, “Better Together.” His remarks inspired both alumni and undergraduates to remain committed to collaboration, mentorship, and elevating the legacy of Gamma Pi.

Bridging the Gap Between Alumni and Undergraduates

In a powerful gesture of brotherhood, the GPAA invited current Gamma Pi Chapter officers to attend and participate in the meeting. The alumni presented the chapter with a $2,000 donation—an investment in their continued development and a testament to GPAA’s unwavering support for undergraduate brothers.

The meeting was also a deeply meaningful occasion as it was attended by Brother Henry Houze, a founding member of the GPAA and longtime advisor to the Gamma Pi Chapter. Brother Houze witnessed firsthand the fruits of his decades-long dedication to the chapter before his transition to Chapter Invisible.

Looking Ahead

The 2024 Annual Meeting was more than a change in leadership—it was a celebration of legacy, unity, and forward momentum. As Chairman Maxwell begins his term, the GPAA stands poised to build on its strong foundation, proving once again that we are truly Better Together.
