1st QUARTER 2021 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Brother Stephen Kent has been serving as the Vice President of Finance and Administration at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, MN since Oct 2020. Prior to joining MHSL, Kent served as the Vice President of Finance and Facilities at North Henneipin Community College in Brooklyn Park, MN for nearly four years. He is responsible for a annual budget of nearly $40M and millions of dollars in investment accounts for MHSL. He supervises a team of over 40 people comprised of personnel serving in Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, Financial Aid, Public Safety, Student Accounts, Payroll, and Purchasing.

Brother Kent served 25 years in the active Army as an officer, ascending to the rank of Colonel. He served 10 years in Military Intelligence and 15 years in Finance. He has served as the Chief Financial Officer for commands in Kuwait, Korea, and at the US Pentagon. He has managed budgets as large as $26.3B and while in the Republic of Korea, managed $103M in government labor costs for 3,400+ employees. Kent has been awarded many military awards and medals to include 6 Meritorious Service Medals, German Proficiency Badge (Gold), Airborne & Air Assault badges.

Brother Kent attained his Bachelor of Science with honors in Business Administration from Alcorn State University and his Masters of Business Administration from Syracuse University. He is a Certified Defense Financial Manager (Acquisition) (CDFM-A) and has graduated from many comptroller schools within the Department of Defense, including the Defense Resource Management Course, Professional Military Comptroller School, Army Cost Management Course, and the Senior Resource Management Symposium.
Brother Kent is a Fall 1987 initiate of Gamma Pi and has served as Polemarch, Keeper of Exchequer and other offices at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Brother Kent is currently serving his second consecutive term as Polemarch of the Richfield-Bloomington Alumni Chapter in Minnesota where they consistently engage in community activities such as mentoring middle-schoolers, assist families during Thanksgiving and Christmas with meals and toys, and have a strong fellowshipping & reclamation efforts with Kappa men throughout the Twin Cities and beyond.

Brother Kent has served his community for decades, predominately through youth services. He has mentored kids in elementary schools, coached youth basketball & baseball, and even officiated basketball (high school, college, and professionally). He currently officiates in four NCAA basketball conferences and officiates HS Varsity basketball in MN. He actively participates in the Indigenious Men, and Men of Color (IMMoC) Workgroup in Minnesota State’s higher education system.

Brother Kent has two intelligent, respectful, handsome sons. Corey recently graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and is the CEO of Blap World Global, a clothing line out of Dallas, TX and Jared is a sophomore at Anoka Ramsey Community College in Anoka, MN.
