1st QUARTER 2020 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Henry Houze Jr, was born on April 28, 1943 to the late Henry and Earlean Houze Sr. Henry was a graduate of the great Oak Park High School in 1961. His talents and academic achievements lead him to Alcorn State University on a football scholarship. While at Alcorn he played football for a short time due to a serious injury. This was not to stop Henry. He stayed at Alcorn and became a fierce student leader and assistant in the athletic sports information department. The pinnacle of his college years came in the Spring of 1967. He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi on a line of three brothers. After graduation, Henry received a Certification in Student Activities and Programming from Dartmouth College. He later attended Indiana University where he received a certification in Alumni Administration and Fund Raising.

After leaving Bloomington, Indiana, Henry returned to Alcorn to work on his Master’s. He received his Master’s in Guidance Education in 1982. While at Alcorn he held many positions. The most notable was his tenure as Alumni Director from 1974-1993. Toward the end his career, he served as Associate Director of Admissions.

Henry retired from Alcorn in 2001, but his service to his community was just starting. He joined the nonprofit community of Natchez, MS and became a Youth Development Specialist for the Boys and Girls Club of Miss-Lou.

In 2006, he was awarded the Miss- Lou Boys and Girls Club Staff of the Year Award.

Henry is currently an active member of the Natchez Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, where he has served as president in past years. His lifelong dedication to Kappa has spanned over 50 years. He is currently a lifetime member of the fraternity.

Henry is married to Dorothy Bingham Houze. They have two daughters and five grandkids.
