GPAA Hosts Successful Legislative Reception to Support Alcorn State University’s Funding Priorities

On Monday evening, February 24, 2025, the Gamma Pi Alumni Association (GPAA) continued its mission of advocacy and engagement by hosting a Legislative Reception Meet & Greet at Johnnie T’s Bistro in Jackson, Mississippi. Organized by the GPAA Membership Committee under the leadership of Brother Eric Jones, the event served as a platform to strengthen relationships between Alcorn State University stakeholders and Mississippi lawmakers.

A Night of Purpose and Partnership

The reception was designed to foster a shared understanding of the legislative priorities impacting Alcorn State University during the current session. With state funding playing a critical role in the university’s continued success, the evening provided a unique opportunity for key stakeholders to engage directly with legislators and influence the allocation of essential resources.

Strong Turnout and Distinguished Guests

The event welcomed an impressive turnout of 76 attendees, including Alcorn State University President Dr. Tracy Cook and 32 legislators. Among them were Senator Albert Butler, Representative Gregory Holloway—a ranking member of the Mississippi House of Representatives—and several influential committee members whose decisions directly impact higher education in the state.

Powered by Strategic Support

GPAA was honored to have the support of two sponsors—AT&T and Strategic Partnership Corporation—whose contributions helped make the evening possible and successful.

Looking Ahead

The overwhelmingly positive feedback from both attendees and legislators has positioned this reception as a signature event in GPAA’s calendar. President Dr. Tracy Cook and multiple lawmakers praised the evening’s purpose and execution, with many expressing their eagerness to attend future receptions.

As GPAA continues to advocate for excellence at Alcorn, events like this reinforce our commitment to building bridges between the university, its alumni, and the leaders shaping its future.
